About the News Audience Research Paper Award
The research papers posted below were honored with the News Audience Research Paper Award. The News Audience Research Paper Award, which encourages and shines a spotlight on research that informs us about the audience for news, was created by Paula Poindexter during her 2013-2014 term as president of AEJMC. The award, which has a cash prize of $1,000, complements News Engagement Day which Poindexter also established while president of AEJMC. News Engagement Day, which is always the first Tuesday in October, encourages everyone, especially young people, to engage with credible news. Plus, it emphasizes educating the public about the principles and process of journalism as well as the importance of an informed public in a democratic society. Authors of award-winning papers receive a certificate and cash prize, which Poindexter funds.
